Roof restoration

We only recommend full restoration when your existing roof is worth retaining. The process involves comprehensive preparation, changing broken tiles, completely rebedding and repointing ridge caps, and finishing with a three coat paint system.

Restored dark tiled roof and guttering

For roofs worth retaining.

Not every roof needs a full replacement, but not every tired roof should simply be painted over. We look at the condition first. If the underlying tiles are still structurally sound, a full restoration is a practical way to extend the roof's life and vastly improve its appearance.

For roofs worth retaining: full ridge cap rebedding and repointing, necessary tile changes, careful preparation and a three coat paint system.

Cement tile, terracotta and iron roofs

The right restoration process depends on the roof. Cement tiles can become porous as their original coating wears away. Terracotta tiles are cleaned rather than painted, with moss and broken tiles dealt with carefully. Iron roofs are assessed for faded coatings, rusted screws and valley irons before any recoating is recommended.

Not every iron roof is suitable for painting. We consider the pitch, sheet length and overall condition before recommending restoration or replacement.

Doing it right

A lasting restoration is about the preparation work done before a single drop of paint is applied. It requires replacing broken tiles, thorough pressure cleaning to remove dirt and oxidation, and most importantly, securing the ridge caps properly through comprehensive rebedding and repointing.

The process

  • Repairs and Cleaning: Broken tiles are swapped out, and the entire roof surface is thoroughly pressure cleaned.
  • Ridge Cap Work: The ridge caps and old cement are removed before the caps are rebedded and repointed with a flexible finish.
  • Coating System: A specialised three coat paint system is applied to seal the tiles and provide a durable new colour finish.
